DUSUN TOBILUNG CULTURE

Dusun Tobilung just one of minority ethic in Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) Sabah. This ethic have many similarity in Rungus, Lotud dan Kadazan dusun ethic in language and culture but have different dialect. Mostly this ethic live in Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and Kudat. Now, we can see that every ethic in Sabah are influence by religious but more to Christian. 

The unique of Dusun Tobilung is when celebrating wedding. They have Adat Menanda as a custom to mark the woman belong to someone. The man parent will meet the woman and give a bracelet as a mark. It because Dusun Tobilung culture prevent woman and man interact with another if do not have any relationship. They will pay Sogit custom if been see together. After that,  Adat Merisik also we know as custom whisper or engagement. If the man ready to marry, this custom will be held to get to know the woman he marrying. Here we have a Bantaran, who is the village leader as connecter between this two family. If the family accept the engagement. Sinsing or ring will be give to the woman and dicussion about Berian Nopung. Berian nopung is like intercession that should give to woman side for holding the wedding. Type of intercession another then kitchen necessity, they have dapu like gong dan tempayan (jar). Lastly, the wedding will be held about seven day and they will be preparing a rope to count the day. On the seven day of wedding, the rope will have seven knot facing the sun and the man side will came to the wedding before the erection sun shadow. If they late, there will penalty one of smack Tinukul (music instrument). But today this instrument is hard to find. So, the groom must just have to pay based on the bride family want.
